Schemper's Ace Hardware sells genuine
Indian Calcutta poles more commonly known as calcutta
poles. They are used in different regions of the country for
different uses and in different industries including:
In the central valley of California they are used for knocking
almonds and pecans. After the trees are hand or
machine knocked workers go through with the poles and knock the
remaining nuts out of the trees. They also use them in the winter to
clean "mummies" out of the trees.
Ham radio enthusiasts also use the calcutta poles
for spreaders when constructing cubical quad antennas.
Calcuttas are used in the fishing industry in
California and the northwest for harvesting crab and as
rigging poles on commercial fishing boats. In the southern
United States they make fishing poles out of calcuttas.
What makes these poles different from regular bamboo is their
strength and durability. They are semi-solid not hollow, with a very
light weight tight fiber composition. Their joints are tighter or
closer together than most bamboo and their darker color signifies
that they come from a certain region in Southeast Asia.
Schemper's Ace Hardware sells Calcutta poles in three lengths
(18'-20', 20'-22' and 22'-24') and we sell them locally by the each
and ship them in units of 25.
